Air Purifiers & Air Quality Solution

An air purifier draws room air through one or more filters that capture airborne particles such as dust, pollen and pet dander, then returns the filtered air to the room. Many models add an activated carbon filter for household odors. Results depend on the size of the room, the unit's clean air delivery rate (CADR), the filter type and how long the unit runs.

A True HEPA filter is tested to capture at least 99.97% of airborne particles 0.3 microns in size. When you compare models, look for "True HEPA" rather than "HEPA-type" or "HEPA-style", which aren't held to the same standard. If you're buying for a specific health condition, check with your healthcare provider about what to look for.

An air purifier filters particles out of the air, while a humidifier adds moisture to it. Calgary's dry winter air leads many households to use a humidifier, and some combination units do both. They solve different problems, so it's worth deciding which one you need first.

It depends on the model, the filter type and how often the unit runs. Many purifiers have a filter-change indicator, and the manufacturer's manual lists the recommended interval. Carbon filters used for odors often need replacing sooner than particle filters. We carry replacement filters in-store and online.

Models with an activated carbon filter are designed to reduce everyday household odors and capture smoke particles. For heavy smoke or a large space, you may need a larger unit or more than one, along with good ventilation.

Yes. An air purifier can capture pet hair and dander floating in the air, and a carbon filter helps with pet odors. It works well alongside regular vacuuming with a well-maintained filter, and a washable pre-filter helps catch hair before it reaches the main filter.
