How do I know if the attachment will fit with my central vacuum hose?
Most attachments have a universal fit with an inside diameter of 1 ¼” that connects to the hose, with the exception of electric carpet brushes.
Should I install a muffler on my central vacuum system?
If you want to reduce the noise of your central vacuum unit, you can install a muffler but it does not affect the function of the system. Installing a muffler is a personal preference and some homeowners decide to do so depending on the location of the vacuum unit (ie: if it’s installed in the basement where there are bedrooms or a living area).
How do I know which replacement motor is right for my central vacuum unit?
There are 3 main types of central vacuum motors – the flow-through motor, peripheral bypass motor, and the tangential bypass motor.
The flow-through motor is similar to the ones found in conventional portable vacuum cleaners but is more powerful. They’re typically recommended for less expensive systems and are a quieter option compared to peripheral bypass and tangential bypass motors. This is because vacuumed air passes over the armature to cool the motor, resulting in a quiet operation.
The peripheral bypass motor is engineered with cooling fans that blow air over the armature and out through the side vents. An advantage of peripheral bypass motors is that they only use clear air and don’t introduce unfiltered air to the motor chamber, unlike a flow-through motor.
Finally, the tangential bypass motor is the most expensive of the three options but is the most popular because they’re engineered to last. These motors redirect all heated and/or dirty exhaust out of the motor chamber and have the power of a dual-motor system. If you’re looking for longevity, consider a tangential bypass motor for your central vacuum system.
Do I need new tools and accessories if I need to replace my vacuum unit?
No. The great thing about today’s central vacuum systems is that you don’t need the same brand of unit and tools. Most accessories are compatible with the unit, regardless of the brand.
What is the best tool for cleaning hardwood floors?
We recommend a brush with natural bristles or a dust mop floor tool for cleaning hardwood floors, tile, laminate, vinyl flooring, and other hard surface floorings.
What is a central vacuum low voltage hose?
A low-voltage hose consists of low-voltage wiring that allows total control of the central vacuum. A metal band completes the circuit when the hose is inserted into the wall inlet. Once in place, you can turn the unit on or off from the switch on the handle.
What is a central vacuum electric hose?
Electric central vacuum hoses are designed with a combination of low-voltage and high-voltage wires throughout the hose. The low-voltage wire conducts a signal from the hose to the vacuum system. Electric hoses are more lightweight and durable than low-voltage hoses.
